Fysiopuntura helps people who are physically active and empowers them to manage their pain without pain killers and helps them restore and keep their mobility and independence so they can continue to stay active in their daily and work activities, their family and recreational activities and living a healthy life style.

Fysiopuntura offers in addition to Holistic Online Physical Therapy In-home Holistic Physical Therapy to help you stay pain free, mobile, independent and physically active.

How long does an In-home Physical Therapy session last and what’s in it?

Each session lasts 90 minutes and it combines manual therapy techniques, the use of one or more modalities of Alternative Therapy depending on your case, education about your condition, aggravating factors, factors that help it, self-management tips, neuromuscular reeducation to treat postural and biomechanical deficits contributing to your symptoms, design of a customized Home Exercise Program and professional guidance for a healthier lifestyle.

What’s different about this treatment approach?

The effectiveness of our treatment approach and the low relapse of our patients due to the same condition is given by treating the symptoms as well as the root cause with an integrative plan of care and educating them so they can understand their medical condition and how to self-manage it.  Our treatment approach makes you independent of us and the health system in general as we teach you the tools so you can have control over your own health.

How do we protect ourselves and protect you from the contagion of COVID-19?

We follow biosafety guidelines for your safety and also our own, not only to prevent the contagion due to COVID-19 but also from skin infections preventable with proper hand washing, use of a face mask and shield, head cover and individual lab coat with each patient, disinfection and preparation of the body area we’ll be working on and the use of gloves when an open wound is present.  We disinfect shoes prior to entering your home and when necessary we’ll wear shoe coverings.  All equipment used during our treatment has been previously disinfected. Your Physical Therapist drives her own car to get to you.

What hurts? Do you relate?

Neck and Shoulder Pain

Neck and Shoulder Pain

Do you have neck and shoulder pain that is almost constant and may or may not radiate to your arm or hand?

Do you suffer from pain at the base of the skull and around the forehead as if you had a band around the head?

Do you have difficulty turning your head, driving, working at the computer, sleeping, lifting objects and playing sports?

These are the most common complaints from patients who have come to me due to headaches, neck or shoulder pain.

They, like you, have tried pain killers, have taken a break from the activities that were causing them pain, have seen a massage therapist, have changed their pillow, have used a posture corrector, may have tried physical therapy, chiropractic or acupuncture treatment and even surgery with limited and not always lasting results. Why?

These modalities used alone often do not offer long-term results. Removing pain is not a reliable indicator of having resolved the cause of the problem.

Back Pain

Back Pain

Do you have low back pain that:

May or may not radiate to the buttock or leg, causes stiffness and difficulty to move, stand or sit for more than 20 minutes?

Affects your ability to sleep, walk, lift objects from the floor and play sports?

It is tempting to think that it is nothing and that it will go away on its own over time, that it was caused by you sleeping funny or because you have muscle spasms which everyone has at one time or another in their life.

You don’t know what caused it, but it seems it has not changed in the last weeks or months despite having rested and taken pain killers and anti-inflammatories.

If this is happening to you, you’re not alone. I receive patients like you all the time. In fact low back pain and sciatica are the most common problems in the Physical Therapy clinics. You will be wondering:

Why does my back pain last so long? Will I have to live with this pain for the rest of my life?

Hip and Knee Pain

Hip and Knee Pain

Have you been suffering of hip and/or knee pain for weeks or even years and perhaps developing a limp, losing mobility and the ability to perform activities that didn’t use to be a problem before?

Does your hip and/or knee hurt when you stand up after prolonged sitting, or when you walk on slopes and up and down stairs?

Did you use to run and lift weights but have stopped because they exacerbate your pain? Have you stopped practicing your favorite sport because the pain has become unbearable?

You don’t know exactly what has caused your pain, you think it may be the result of your exercise routine or due to old age and there is nothing you can do but to accept it and quit doing the activities you enjoy the most like walking, hiking and practicing recreational activities.

If this sounds familiar to you, maybe you’ve already tried taking pain killers, have used ointments and massage, have used a brace or a band around your knee.

Maybe you have changed your shoes, modified the way you go up and down stairs and have avoided long walks or walking on slopes to reduce pain. These have helped a bit but the pain doesn’t seem to want to go away and you don’t know what else to do..

You don’t seem to be able to increase your level of physical activity without an increase in your pain level and having to take several days off for the pain to return to the level it was before it worsened.

Perhaps your doctor has given you a knee injection and you have gone to Physiotherapy and although this helped for a while, the pain returned after you stopped the exercises.

Sport Injuries

Sport Injuries

If you live a physically active lifestyle, are a weekend athlete, an amateur athlete or a professional athlete, you will know from personal experience that sport injuries are quite frequent.

Interestingly enough, we exercise first, because we enjoy it and second, to stay healthy. However, sometimes exercise causes injury and pain and puts at risk our desired goal to stay healthy.

Many people choose running as a way to get fit because it is easy to practice and inexpensive. However, running is an activity that puts 7 times more stress on the body tissues compared to walking, making it clear that to run we have to be in shape.

If our body does not have the necessary qualities and the correct biomechanics to run safely, exposing a faulty system to 7 times more stress makes it easy to predict that the system will collapse somewhere.

This is why running injuries are so common. The weakest tissue will be the first one to give and if we mask the pain and keep running (taking pain killers and using external supports), other tissues will be the next ones to suffer. This will add complexity to the injury and longer recovery times.
